Fishing in Red Dead Redemption 2 requires lures and baits; however, since the video game features a large number of fish species, it is mandatory to know the best lure and bait for each of them.
Before approaching this side-activity, you should know that there are exactly 12 RDR2 fishing baits and lures you can obtain.
Some of them can be found, while others can be purchased from a specific store. Below we discuss all baits and lures in Red Dead Redemption II, along with the fish species on which you should use them.
If you follow the game’s story you’ll be introduced to fishing while playing the story mission A Fisher of Men in Chapter 2.
Once you complete it, you’ll unlock the fishing rod, which will remain in your inventory allowing you to go fishing whenever you want.
To do so; however, you need fishing baits or lures. Furthermore, you also need to know the best spots where specific fish species exist.
A key location that must be visited in Red Dead Redemption 2 is the Bait and Tackle Shop in Lagras. You can see its location on the map below.
When you talk to the shopkeeper, you’ll be able to purchase most baits and lures; so make sure you buy as many as you can carry.
It’s also worth mentioning that the Lagras Bait and Tackle Shop offers three Special Lures and a Special Spinner. The Special Lures become available after you start the mission A Fisher of Fish.
The said mission unlocks the Legendary Fish, for which you’ll need the Special Lures. Once you trigger it, head back to Lagras and buy them.
Once you complete the said mission, you’ll be able to buy the Special Spinner, as a reward for mailing all Legendary Fish to the quest giver.
