Red Dead Redemption II: Bullhead Catfish Fishing Guide

RDR2 Bullhead Catfish

The Red Dead Redemption 2 Bullhead Catfish is a Fish Species endemic to Lemoyne area featured in the video game published by Rockstar Games for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

It is a small sized-fish which can be easily caught early in the game after you complete A Fisher of Men in Chapter 2.

Although in real-life the Bullhead Catfish prefer meat bait, in RDR2, you’ll have to use cheese if you want to get better results.

Furthermore, you’ll have better chances to catch a Bullhead Catfish if it’s raining outside.

Description:

“Bullhead Catfish, are a small, bottom-feeding fish found in the swamp waters of Lemoyne. The Bullhead Catfish is strongly attracted to corn and may also be tempted by cheese and bread.

Measuring around 7-10 inches in length, the Bullhead Catfish is strongly attracted to corn and may also be tempted by cheese and bread.

They respond to rainy weather by becoming more active. A Legendary Bullhead Catfish is said to have been spotted in the vicinity of Sisika Penitentiary.”

Recommended Fishing Spot and Bait:

When looking to catch a Bullhead Catfish in Red Dead Redemption II, the swampy region near Lagras is hands-down the best location.

Fishing during the early morning or late evening hours can further increase your chances of catching a Bullhead Catfish.

Even though the water is shallow, as long as you use Corn Bait it’s quite impossible not to catch at least one catfish. The rain will yield better results, mainly because the raindrops tend to fool the fish, especially this specific type.

Sometimes, while fishing in the location on our map below, using the same bait you might also catch Chain Pickerel, and if you switch to Cheese, you might catch Bluegill.

 Bullhead Catfish Variation and Weight:

The common Red Dead Redemption 2  Bullhead Catfish, such as the one below, weights between 0.5 and 2.0 lbs, meaning that it’s a small sized fish.

A larger variation; though, also exists and it weights 6lbs 2oz. The Legendary Bullhead Catfish is found on the eastern island where Sisika Penitentiary can be seen.

Cooking Recipes:

Unlike the Redfin Pickerel, for example, the Bullhead Catfish’s meat doesn’t allow you to cook too many recipes.

Basically, the only RDR2 cooking recipe using this type of fish is the Gritty Fish, which, when consumed, can help restore your character’s stamina.

How to Catch:

The normal lake fishing technique used to catch all other small-sized fish; is the one you’ll use to catch a Bullhead Catfish.

Cast your line after placing the Corn Bait, then wait for the fish to bite. Press R2/RT to hook the fish; then when it’s not fighting reel in rotating the right thumbstick clockwise and pulling the left thumbstick towards you.

Stop reeling when the fish starts to struggle and repeat the step above.
