The Chain Pickerel is another Fish Type you can catch while playing Red Dead Redemption 2, for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
The RDR2 Chain Pickerel is a small sized-fish almost identical to the Redfin Pickerel. The main difference between these two species is the color of the fin.
Because these two fish types are so similar, you’ll often catch Redfin Pickerels while fishing for Chain Pickerels; therefore, sometimes they share the same fishing spots as you can see on our map below.
Unlike the redfin variation, the Chain Pickerel is also encountered while fishing in lakes and swamps.
Description:
“Chain Pickerel are a common sight in many of the country’s lake, rivers, and swamps. The Chain Pickerel is a small but energetic, predatory fish. It reportedly favors corn and other food baits. Chain Pickerel prefer sunny weather. Fishermen in Big Valley claim that a Legendary Chain Pickerel can be found someway downriver from Cumberland Falls.”
Recommended Fishing Spot and Bait:
Because of the various fish species it offers, the southern part of Dakota River remains our favorite location for fishing this common fish. If you want you can also get good results in the swamps north of Saint-Denis, or in the rivers north of Strawberry.
For better chances, make sure you switch to Corn Bait, although you may also catch this fish using Bread.
Chain Pickerel Variation and Weight:
The regular pickerel weights between 0.5 and 2.0 lbs; while its legendary variation is much larger.
When fishing for the Legendary Pickerel expect to bring in a fish with a weight of 9lbs and 1 oz.
Cooking Recipes:
The meat of this fish is flaky which means that you’ll be able to cook the same recipes as you can cook using the Redfin Pickerel meat.
Plain Flaky Fish is the basic recipe but by adding various herbs you can make the following variations: Thyme Flaky Fish, Oregano Flaky Fish, Minty Flaky Fish.
How to Catch:
The basic boober fishing technique is the one you’ll use to cath Chain Pickerel. Using the Corn Bait, cast your line and when the fish bites, press R2/RT.
Reel the fish in using the right thumbstick (rotate clockwise), but stop when the fish starts to fight. Pulling the left thumbstick towards you, will help you bring in the fish faster.
