Red Dead Redemption II Gold Medal Walkthrough: Horse Flesh for Dinner Story Mission

Horse Flesh for Dinner is a Red Dead Redemption 2 story mission featured in Chapter 3 of the video game developed by Rockstar Studios for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

You can play the RDR2 Horse Flesh for Dinner mission once you finish Advertising, the New American Art and The Fine Joys of Tobacco; by talking to John at the entrance of Caliga Hall.

In Red Dead Redemption IIHorse Flesh for Dinner features 3 Gold Medal requirements, and our walkthrough below explains how to complete them.

Since this mission can be quite tricky, we suggest you save the game before starting it. This will help you replay it with your current loadout in case you miss the Gold Medal on your first try.

When you’re ready to start Horse Flesh for Dinner, head to Caliga Hall where you can see John Martson’s icon (J). As you remember from The New South and The Course of True Love missions, you are not allowed to use any weapons nearby Caliga Hall.

Description:

“To get back at the Braithwaites, Tavish Gray asks Arthur, John, and Javier to steal prized horses from Braithwaite Manor that he claims will sell for $5000.”

Mission Requirements:

Gold Medal Goals:

  • Kill the stablehand showing you the horses
  • Catch the stallion within 10 seconds
  • Get five headshots

Walkthrough:

At the entrance to Caliga Hall, the two guards you encounter will direct you to John’s location. You can find him at the stables if you follow the path marked on your minimap.

Approach John to trigger a cutscene during which you’ll find about the current job. Next, follow John and Javier all the way to Braithwaite Manor.

Talk to John inside the stables at Caliga Hall

Let John do the talking with the guard at the entrance, then cross the fields following your partners to the stables. Hitch your horse at the entrance, then talk to the stablehand.

Gold Medal Goal Tip: While the stablehand shows you the horses; stealth kill him from behind, as you can see in the picture.

Now head inside and calm the white stallion. This technique is similar to the one used to break wild horses.

Once the horse is calm, lead him outside to trigger a new cutscene.

Gold Medal Goal Tip: During the escape sequence, you have to make sure you score at least 5 headshots. This requirement is quite accessible if you use the Dead Eye skill, on the guards at the entrance or those close to the path leading to the manor (pictured below). Since the guards are close to each other mark their heads and take them out all at once.

Continue to follow John and Javier across the fields and back on the main road. Once you kill the last guard (notice that John will tell you that), switch to your lasso.

Gold Medal Goal Tip: Stay behind the horses and with your lasso equipped; pay close attention because one of them (in the picture below the one on the right) will escape. Immediately lasso the stallion to complete the third Gold Medal requirement. Do not release L2/LT until you reach Clay and Clive.

The mission ends when you sell the stallions to Clay and Clive. As a reward for finishing Horse Flesh for Dinner in Red Dead Redemption 2; you will unlock the Horse Fence north of Clemens Point. At this Fence, you can see horses to Clive and Clay.

Compared to the usual Horse Fences; these two characters will pay you more for a stolen horse, but less for purchased one.

Horse Flesh for Dinner is also one of the missions you need to finish in order to unlock A Short Walk in a Pretty Town. Make sure you check the corresponding walkthrough by accessing our RDR2 Wiki hub.
