Red Dead Redemption 2 The Fine Joys of Tobacco is one of the main missions you can complete in Chapter 3 of the video game published by Rockstar Games for PS4 and Xbox One.
It is relatively a long mission which features 4 requirements you have to complete in order to get the Gold Medal.
Before moving forward with our walkthrough, though it is worth mentioning that you can unlock The Fine Joys of Tobacco in Red Dead Redemption II after you complete Advertising, the New American Art and Magicians for Sport.
Because in RDR2 it’s harder to replay missions without your current loadout it’s a good idea to save your game in a new slot before starting this story mission.
This way, you’ll be able to reload it and replay The Fine Joys of Tobacco with all the items, talismans and trinkets you currently have; in case you miss the Gold Medal.

“Working with the Braithwaites, Arthur and Sean drive to Caliga Hall with the remaining moonshine and attempt to use it to help burn the Grays’ tobacco fields.”

Gold Medal Goals:
- Silently kill the Gray when Sean distracts him in the wagon store
- Douse the fields within two minutes 20 seconds
- Kill five Grays during the escape
- Complete the mission without consuming any health items
Walkthrough:
To start The Fine Joys of Tobacco, ride to Braithwaite Manor and find Hosea using his map icon (H). Pass through the front gate of Braithwaite Manor and when you enter the house you’ll trigger a cutscene. Looks like the meeting started without you.
Join the meeting at Braithwaite Manor
After the cutscene, follow Sean outside and get on the wagon. Drive to Caliga Hall following the marked path on your minimap.
Pay close attention to what Sean has to say, as he will offer information on the new job you must complete for Catherine.
Drive the wagon to Caliga Hall
As you drive towards your objective, you’ll find out that you need to set on fire several tobacco fields using the moonshine in the wagon.
When you get close to Caliga Hall, Sean will ask you if you are not worried that the Grays might recognize you. Make sure that you hide in the back of the wagon.
Hide in the wagon, cowboy
Let Sean do the talking and stay hidden until the wagon gets in the wagon store. Hamish will show you the way.
Gold Medal Goal Tip: After both, Sean and Hamish get the wagon in the store, exit, and remain crouched. Go around the wagon and stealth kill Hamish to secure the first Gold Medal requirement.

Once Hamish has been dealt with, wait for the night inside the barn.
After the next cutscene, you’ll find yourself outside the barn with Sean. Remain crouched and stay close to your partner, as he moves from one cover to another.

Once the coast is clear, you’ll have to douse the tobacco fields.
Gold Medal Goal Tip: In order to douse the tobacco fields in RDR2 within the time limit, you have to keep R2/RT pulled and move from one field to another. On your minimap, these fields are marked in yellow. As long as you are hidden in a field, the guards can’t spot you. Pay attention to your radar and when the marking on a field disappears move to another.
Avoid the guards in the tobacco fields when crossing the paths
The only thing you have to worry here is to avoid the guards when moving from one field to another. To successfully avoid them, keep an eye on their fields of view.
After you douse all tobacco fields, meet Sean at the barn and wait for him to kill the guard inside and douse the building. Step away from the barn and throw a fire bottle to set it ablaze.
Set the barn at Caliga Hall on fire
Now, do the same with the tobacco field nearby. You need to through two fire bottles. As you can expect, your actions will alert all guards; therefore you have to be prepared for an intense shootout.
During the following sequence, stay close to Sean, activating the Dead Eye skill in order to take out the attacking guards faster.
Stay in cover and take out the guards at Caliga Hall, one by one
As you advance with Sean, you’ll eventually reach the payroll wagon. While he takes the money, free the horses by focusing on them with L2/LT.
Use the horses from the payroll cart to escape the premise
Now, jump on one of them while Sean takes the other one.
Gold Medal Goal Tip: For the final Gold Medal requirement you need to kill five Grays during the escape sequence. This sequence starts the moment you mount your horse. This requirement is very tricky because on your way out you will encounter exactly 5 Grays and Sean will also open fire. If he kills one, you’ll lose the Gold Medal. A successful strategy you can use is to learn the escape path followed by Sean and start a little earlier; however, you only need to stay several steps in front of Sean, otherwise, you’ll fail the mission.
With that being said, make sure you activate the Dead Eye skill and take our the first 3 guards near the barn in a single use, then the other two that spawn from the buildings nearby. Although you don’t have to score headshots, aiming for their heads will ensure that you are the one who kills them, not Sean.
Once you exit Caliga Hall, The Fine Joys of Tobacco ends, unlocking Horse Flesh for Dinner and A Short Walk in a Pretty Town (assuming you meet all other mission requirements).
