Red Dead Redemption II: All Gang Hideouts and Gang Locations Guide

Knowing the locations of all Red Dead Redemption 2 Gang Hideouts and the areas where the rival gangs ambush you; is a key element in the video game developed by Rockstar Studios for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Finding 6 Gang Hideouts is also a requirement for Total Completion; therefore it is only normal to reveal the locations of all RDR2 Gang Hideouts as part of our Red Dead Redemption II Wiki.

Since there are various ways to encounter the rival gangs in RDR2, we’ll cover all of them in the following guide; discussing these events with the help of our custom map.

Using the said map, you’ll learn what to expect when you face Dutch’s rivals. One of the first things you should know is that Red Dead Redemption 2 features 7 rival gangs. In addition to these gangs, we have the Pinkertons and other random outlaws.

It is also worth mentioning that starting Epilogue 1, the O’Driscolls will mainly be replaced by random outlaws.

On the map below, you can see all RDR2 gangs marked with various colors. These gangs are O’Driscolls, Murfree Brood, Lemoyne Riders, Skinner Brothers, Laramie, Del Lobo, and the Night Folk.

The rival gangs in Red Dead Redemption 2 each have their unique characteristics and impact on the game world.

As you can see, each rival gang in the video game controls a territory; and most of them have at least one hideout. For example, Shady Belle is a Gang Hideout where the Lemoyne Gang resides. Because these locations are quite important, we’ll discuss them first.

Gang Hideouts

The Gang Hideouts in Red Dead Redemption 2 are powerful camps fully controlled by a rival gang. Capturing them is a challenging task because you need to kill all enemies inside and usually, they will use powerful Gatling guns. Nevertheless, you need to capture 6 of them.

Luckily, 4 are part of the game’s story missions. These hideouts are:

  • Six Point Cabin – Controlled by the O’Driscolls, this hideout is captured while playing Paying a Social Call in Chapter 2.
Use stealth to your advantage by taking out as many O’Driscolls as possible using a bow or throwing knives. This will make the subsequent gunfight more manageable.
  • Shady Belle – This is a Gang Hideout controlled by Lemoyne and you’ll be able to capture it during The Battle of Shady Belle in Chapter 3.
Use dynamite or fire bottles to flush out Lemoyne Raiders hiding in cover, and take advantage of the environment to flank your enemies.
  • Beaver Hollow – Controlled by the Murfree Gang, this Gang Hideout is captured by playing That’s Murfree Country, the last story mission in Chapter 5.
Equip a long-range weapon like a sniper rifle to pick off Murfree Brood members from a distance, reducing the risk of close-quarters combat.
  • Hanging Dog Ranch – Is the Gang Hideout controlled by the Laramie Gang. You can capture it by playing Mrs. Sadie Adler, Widow in Chapter 6.
Make use of high ground and cover to avoid being overwhelmed by the Laramie Gang members, and watch out for snipers.

Use your bow to take out all enemies around Six Point Cabin

Obviously, you can capture these hideouts before reaching the corresponding missions in the game, but this will not change the events featured in the story missions.

Along with the 4 Red Dead Redemption II Gang Hideouts listed above, there are 3 additional locations that will unlock after Chapter 6. These are Thieves Landing, Fort Mercer and Twin Rocks for the owners of the Special or Ultimate Edition of the video game.

The 3 additional Gang Hideouts are not related to the game’s story missions, and you can capture them whenever you feel ready.

Before attempting to capture a Gang Hideout in Red Dead Redemption 2, we suggest you stock up on ammo and tonics, Staying in cover while taking out the rival gang members is mandatory; therefore tread carefully, and don’t underestimate your opponents.

On our map above you can see the locations of all Gang Hideouts in RDR2, marked correspondingly.

Earning Achievements

Clearing gang hideouts and engaging with rival gangs in Red Dead Redemption 2 can also contribute to earning achievements or trophies.

For example, the ‘Friends With Benefits’ achievement/trophy requires you to complete a companion activity in each camp, which can involve helping your fellow gang members deal with rival gangs.

Be sure to check the full list of achievements and trophies for additional challenges related to gangs in the game

Gang Ambushes

While exploring the West, you’ll run into rival gang members who try to ambush you. These events are random and are known as Gang Ambushes.

Most of the time, the rivals will open fire on sight or threaten you. At this point, you have two options. You can either flee or open fire.

Gang Ambushes

Keep in mind though that shooting while on the saddle can be risky as your horse can end up dead. If you chose the latter option, dismount, take cover and only then take out the ambushers.

On the map above you can see the locations where you’ll most likely get ambushed in Red Dead Redemption 2. Since these locations are not fixed, they can easily be replaced by the Gang Encounters and Gang Campfires we discuss below.

Gang Encounters

The Red Dead Redemption 2 Gang Encounters are also random events during which the members of a rival gang are involved.

Unlike the Gang Ambushes; however, the enemies are not interested in you; meaning that you are not their target. These encounters can take place in various regions.

To see all the possible combinations, visit our Unique Chance Encounters, Wilderness Chance Encounters, and Town Chance Encounters guides.

As a rule, when being involved in a Chance Encounter with a rival gang, you have to act fast. Make sure you check the guides above if you wish to learn more about the consequences of your actions.

Clearing gang hideouts and interacting with rival gangs can have consequences and impacts on the game’s storyline and world.

For instance, as you clear more hideouts, you might notice a decrease in the presence of certain gangs in the game world.

Additionally, your actions during gang encounters might affect your Honor level, which in turn influences the game’s ending and how certain characters interact with you.

Gang Campfires

The Gang Campfires in RDR2 are also random and they represent an easier approach of the Gang Hideouts. The main difference between a Gang Hideout and a Gang Campfire is the number of enemies you encounter.

Usually, you can clear a Gang Campfire using a stealthier approach, and take out your enemies in several minutes.

Gang Campfires

When you encounter a Gang Campfire, make sure you kill the gang members, loot everything, then leave the premise before a witness can spot you.
