Red Dead Redemption II Gold Medal Walkthrough: Money Lending and Other Sins III Story Mission

Red Dead Redemption 2 Money Lending and Other Sins III is a short story mission which can be completed in Chapter 2 of the video game developed by Rockstar Studios.

Do you remember Strauss’s debtors, cowboy? You already recovered some money for Leopold Strauss during the main mission named Money Lending and Other Sins I & II.

Well, Arthur, Money Lending and Other Sins III, is no different than the previous mission.

In order to trigger this assignment in RDR2, you need to complete the previous one, then check your camp where you should find a letter in your tent.

By reading the letter you will trigger a cutscene during which you are approached by Leopold Strauss, who asks you to find another debtor. Let’s see how you can complete this mission, shall we?

Mission Requirements:

Description:

“Arthur attempts to reclaim the debt from Thomas Downes but finds him to be destitute.”

Gold Medal Goals:

  • Complete the mission within 2 minutes and ten seconds

Walkthrough:

As you can see, unlike the previous mission you received from Strauss, this one features a gold medal. Which should not be a problem if you follow our RDR2 tips below.

Read the letter from Strauss to start the mission

So, after you are approached by Strauss, mount your horse and head to the mission area; which is highlighted on your map. You should see it west of Caliban’s Seat.

As you approach Thomas Downes’ house (pictured below), slightly head east to find him in the cornfield.

Thomas Downes’ house

Gold Medal Goal Tip: The timer in this mission starts the moment you get close to Thomas Downes’ house. Dismount and quickly approach him. Now, you can try to convince the debtor in several ways. You can threaten him or you can beat him. Since you don’t have too much time to spare with this poor fellow, consider beating him. But move fast and mash X/A.

Yes, it’s not the nicest way but it definitely the fastest.

Not the nicest option, but you should beat this debtor to get the Gold Medal

Once you find out that Thomas doesn’t actually have the money, you will trigger another cutscene showing Arthur leaving the house. You’ll also find out that the debtor is sick and has only a few months to live.

Don’t worry about Downes, and have no regrets for beating him. You are no charity after all. Instead, focus on reaching Strauss as fast as possible the moment you enter Dutch’s camp.

Gold Medal Goal Tip: You can spare precious moments by going around the camp’s tents on your horse. Get close to Kieran’s tree, or the tree where Kieran is being kept hostage. From there dismount and head to Strauss.

Once you talk to him, the mission ends and the gold medal should be yours.

Completing this mission is a requirement for triggering The Sheep and the Goats, one of the last missions in Chapter 2 of Red Dead Redemption 2. Additionally, you’ll be able to play Money Lending and Other Sins – IV after you complete The New South mission in Chapter 3.
