Take little Jack with you on a fishing trip

The little boy is quite excited to go fishing with you. Mount your horse and wait for Jack to come along. Now, ride south-west of Caliban’s Seat with little Jack.

As you arrive, you will receive a Companion Request from Jack. We’ll deal with it later.

Approach the shore marked on your map and equip the fishing rod form the item menu. Now, it’s time to pick the bait. Cheese is perfect for the fish we want to catch.

Awesome! Here is how to fish in Red Dead Redemption 2.

After you equip the rod and the bait, pull L2/LT and cast the fishing line by pressing R2/RT. Now, it’s time to wait until the fish bites the bait. You will know when it does because your controller will start shaking.

The moment you feel the controller moving, press and release R2/RT.

Fishing in RDR2 has 2 sequences. The first one starts when the fish is fighting.  During this phase, you need to tilt the left thumbstick in the opposite direction. For example, if the fish is moving right, you will move the left thumbstick to the left. Keep in mind that if you reel during this phase, you will break the line.

The second phase starts when the fish is tired. This is your chance to bring the fish closer to the shore by moving the left thumbstick down (towards you) and constantly rotating the right thumbstick clockwise. When the controller starts shaking stop reeling because the first phase begins.

Repeat both sequences until the fish is close enough for Arthur to pick it up.

Now that you know how to fish, back to the mission.

Gold Medal Goal Tip: Both Gold Medal requirements in this mission are very easy to achieve, as long as you know how to fish. There are no tricks or tips and you should be able to fulfill both of them on your first try.

Not the biggest fish, but it’s a start

After you catch your first fish, continue to cast your line, as the goal of this mission is to catch 3. Once you get all three, a cutscene will start and you’ll return to Jack.

The boy is already bored, so you two need to return home. But before you go, you’ll encounter to detectives sent by the Pinkertons in Blackwater. Don’t worry cowboy, they’re not here after you. Is Dutch they want.

Looks like Dutch’s gang has been found

Once you talk to them, and politely refuse their offer, you should hurry back to your camp. Dutch needs to know that Horseshoe Overlook isn’t safe anymore.
