Red Dead Redemption 2 A Strange Kindness is the final mission of the second chapter; during which Dutch’s gang has to relocate.
As you remember, the Pinkertons already approached Arthur while fishing with Jack (A Fisher of Men). During the said mission, they came with an offer quite hard to refuse. Your freedom in exchange for Dutch.
Obviously, Arthur refused it; however, since the Pinkertons found you, it’s just a matter of time until they find your camp at Horseshoe Overlook.
So, it’s time to find a better spot to install your camp, cowboy. But to do so, first, you need to talk to Dutch and see what are his plans.
Before starting this mission, make sure you save your game, in case you miss the Gold Medal on your first try. Next, head to Horseshoe Overlook and visit Dutch inside his tent.
Description:
“Wanting the gang to lie low after the trouble in Valentine, Dutch asks Arthur and Charles to scout out a new camp location at Dewbury Creek.”
Mission Requirements:
Gold Medal Goals:
- Return the captive to his family within one minute and 40 seconds
- Get five headshots
- Finish with at least 80% accuracy
- Complete the mission without using any health items
New Weapons Available:
- Double-Action Revolver
Walkthrough:
After you talk to Dutch, you’ll find out that he intends to move the camp to Dewberry Creek, located southeast from your current location.
Before moving though, Dutch needs to make sure that Dewberry Creek is a safe location for his gang. This means that you an Charles have to scout it first.
Head to your horse and ride to Dewberry Creek with Charles. On your map, you should see that the new location is in Lemoyne, north of Rhodes.
Once you reach the location, make sure you check the body marked on your minimap by X. Looks like this man was recently shot.
Next, head to the deserted camp southeast. Check both tents. Now, check the crates by the wooden wagon to find a woman and two kids.
Unfortunately, you don’t speak German, but it is clear that the woman’s husband was taken by a rival gang. Time to see what happened to him, Arthur.
Mount your horse and ride south-west following Charles. Go around the lake, then move east through the woods, until you find another deserted camp.
The first thing you have to do here is to free the captive settler lying on the ground. Approach him and cut the ropes, but stay alert because you’ll eventually be ambushed.
Gold Medal Goal Tip: The second Gold Medal requirement goes hand in hand with the third one. Therefore, using a sniper rifle and the Dead Eye skill will help you maintain your accuracy above 80% and get more than five headshots.
Kill all enemies, then head to the prisoner and free him.
Gold Medal Goal Tip: The moment you cut the rope, the clock starts ticking. This means that you have one minute and 40 seconds to bring the man on the ground to his family. Mount your horse and wait for him to join, then head straight to the marker on your minimap.
The trick here is to avoid the road and move directly to your marker; however, you’ll also have to make sure you don’t hit any obstacles.
After the prisoner reunites with his family, A Strange Kindness ends and the following cutscene shows your new camp. Welcome to Clemens Point, Arthur! Chapter 3 begins now, and the first thing you have to do is to talk to Dutch and complete A New South story mission.
