Apex Legends season 2 is out now and it has changed a few things. The new character Watson has also been added to the game. You must be wondering why it took so long for a new legend to be added to the game and why new legends are not added often in Apex Legends.
Since the game released in February, only 2 new legends have been added. Octane was part of season 1 and Watson has been introduced in season 2. Producer Drew McCoy talked about the issue and mentioned that it takes a lot of time to develop these characters and then release them to the public.
He mentioned that no character has been made in under 18 months and it usually takes around a year and a half to create a new Legend for Apex Legends. This gives us an idea regarding how much planning it takes to make a single Legend.
New characters can break the game if they are not balanced. The abilities and perks need to be optimized before they are released for the public to enjoy. If all these measures are not in place then the new character can potentially be overpowered or underpowered.
If that is indeed the case, then the game is no longer fun for players that play other characters. Interestingly, McCoy also mentioned that the first 8 characters were developed simultaneously. That is very interesting indeed. He mentioned that these characters were being designed back in December 2017.
Keeping in mind that Apex Legends released in February 2019, this means that the game was kept a secret for a long time. Respawn does not seem to have a concrete plan regarding when new Legends will be added to Apex Legends but McCoy did tease that new characters are being worked on. He mentioned, “We have a bunch of characters all hitting different milestones every month.”
While we do not know when the next character will be added to the game but we do know that new characters are being developed for Apex Legends and I am sure that fans would be pleased to learn that.
