This specific item is given to you as a reward for completing Money Lending and Other Sins – IV, one of the loansharking missions featured in the video game.
During the said mission, which is triggered by talking to Leopold Strauss at Clemens Point, you have to recover the money from two debtors: Gwyn Hughes and Winton Holmes.
Unfortunately, both of them are quite broke, meaning that they don’t have the money they owe to Strauss.
In exchange, though, they will offer you two unique items to repay their debts.
Where to Find the Diamond Brooch:
While playing the said mission, Winton Holmes will pay his debt by showing you the location of a very rare white cougar.
As the mission unfolds, you’ll be able to hunt the white cougar and skin it. The pelt you receive can be sold at the butcher in Strawberry, allowing you to recover the money Winton Holmes owes to Leopold Strauss.
During the second part of the same mission, you’ll have to visit Gwyn Hughes. Just like Winton, he is broke; but he knows a grave where a woman named Mrs. Claypole has been buried along with her jewelry.
After you help Gwyn Hughes rob the grave of Mrs. Claypole, you’ll receive a Diamond Brooch.
How to Use the Diamond Brooch:
Now that you have this unique item, the obvious question is how to use the Diamond Brooch? Many players also wanted to know if you can sell it.
While you can try selling it, the proper thing to do is to return this jewelry to Strauss. Unfortunately, you may not be able to do that; therefore you’ll have to return it to the camp’s ledger (pictured below).
Simply approach the ledger and a new button will appear which allows you to Pay Debts. When you press it, the RDR2 Diamond Brooch, as well as the money you received for the cougar pelt; will be transferred to the camp.
Obviously, you’ll receive your share. Although it may not be the most profitable deal, this is how you properly use the Diamond Brooch in Red Dead Redemption II.
