God Of War Tips

The new God Of War is set in the nose mythology and is very different from previous parts. The game can get rather challenging but there are a few things that will make the game easier for you. In this God of War beginner’s guide, we are going to go over some tips and tricks that will help you dominate your enemies.

God Of War Tips And Tricks

The following are the tips and tricks that you should keep in mind when playing God of War:

Mastering Combat Is Satisfying

The combat in God of War is not easy to master. It does take a lot of practice but learning the moves is very satisfying indeed. The Leviathan Axe is your main weapon which you can throw and use as a melee weapon. Do not be afraid to throw it at an enemy as it will freeze the enemy in place and will give you time to attack.

You also have a shield that you can use to block and parry. Learning to parry takes some time but it can be used to stun most of the enemies in the game which gives you a window to deal a lot of damage. Similarly, timing your dodge is also very important as it will help you avoid taking damage and increase your survivability. This is going to be very important when you go up against more challenging enemies such as the Valkyries.

Skill Choice Matters

There are plenty of skills that you can unlock in God of War and once you have gone through the tutorial, you will have an idea of how you want to play the game. the finishing move skill is one that you should get early on as it does a lot of damage. You should also get a few ranged skills in order to deal damage from a distance. Executioner’s Cleave is another great skill for the Leviathan Axe seeing how it deals more damage than your fists.

You do not have to worry too much about skills. As you get used to the combat and progress the game, XP is going to accumulate and you will be able to get the skills that you want.

Remember To Use Quick Turn

You can use the dodge to get out of most situations but there are times when you do not have a lot of wiggle room. That is where the quick turn ability comes in handy. press down on the direction pad to use it to quickly maneuver Kratos. It can be disorienting at times but it can save your life. Just remember not to press it repeatedly or you could quick turn twice by accident.

Take The Time To Explore Different Regions And Realms

As this is a single-player game, it is slow at the start but it picks up pace quickly. It has its highs and lows in which you will be able to explore different realms. We recommend that you do not rush the different regions and realms of the game and explore them as much as possible.

god of war realms

You will often find puzzles, mini-bosses, and even secret chests that can be very rewarding. They will give you resources that you can use to upgrade your gear. You should also check out the optional Muspelheim and Niflheim realms and complete the challenges that these realms have to offer.

Change The Special Runic Attacks

As you progress the game, you will unlock new runic attacks. Some are AoE while others are more targeted. Some deal more damage while others stun the enemies around you. Check them out to see which ones work for you. You can have a light runic attack and a heavy runic attack at any time. You can even swap them out when dealing with a mini-boss or mobs of enemies.

Make The Most Of Atreus

If you have played the previous God of War games then you might think that Atreus is just an AI companion that is going to get in your way but that is not the case. He can be very useful. He has infinite arrows but they do take some time to regenerate. You can use them to take out the weaker enemies or interrupt incoming attacks. You can also use Atreus to distract bosses so that you are free to deal damage. Plus, he is there with you, might as well make the most of him.

Save Hacksilver And Resources Early On

We do not recommend buying gear or armor early on in the game. If you take your time and beat enemies and do the side missions then you are going to find a lot of gear anyway. You should save your hacksilver and other resources early on so that you can upgrade your axe and gear. Axe upgrades are tied to the story, so you need to progress the game in order to upgrade it but you can upgrade the bow.

You should also sell the armor that you get early on once you have better options in order to get some hacksilver which you can use to upgrade your current gear. You do not need to get attached to any specific armor as you get high-tier armor in the final leg of the game. It is also worth mentioning that some armor is only available in the new game plus mode. You can check out our guide on the armor in the game to learn more.

What Do Different Enemy HP Bar Colors Mean?

As you progress the game you will unlock side missions which you can do to gain more XP and loot. You will also be able to take on harder enemies. Enemy difficulty can be seen by the HP bar color. A green HP bar means that the enemy level is below yours. Yellow means that you are evenly matched. Orange and red HP bars show that the enemy is at a higher level than you. Finally, you have the purple health bar which means that the enemy can take a lot of damage and can even take you out in a single shot.

The Boat Parts Are Important

While in the boat, we recommend listening to the stories that are being told. You will get to know loads about the lore of the game and the different characters. Furthermore, you can pick up resources while you are boating. These resources include Yggdrasil Dew which will increase your stats. Pick these up when you can and try not to skip the boat stories.

These are some of the tips and tricks that you should keep in mind when playing God of War. If you are interested in learning more then you can check out our guide on how you can get the Infinity Gauntlet in God of War.
