How To Override Machines And Mount Them In Horizon Zero Dawn

In order to unlock the override feature in HZD, you need to do a couple of missions of the main campaign and defeat the corrupter for the first time. After that, you will be able to override a couple of machines. Your selection is going to be fairly limited but we are going to go over how you can override more machines in the game.

Once you have unlocked the ability you will be able to override a couple of machines and mount them. The process is simple. You need to sneak up onto the machine and press and hold the override button that pops up. You will get two options, the silent strike option and the override option. Once you have hacked the machine you will get the option to mount the machine if possible. If you cannot mount it then it will fight alongside you until the override wears off or the machine dies.

In order to be able to override more machines in Horizon Zero Dawn. You need to complete cauldrons. These are mini-dungeons that you can complete in order to be able to hack new machines. Each Cauldron that you complete lets you override a new set of machines. Imagine having a Sawtooth by your side in battle. Now that it’s going to give you a major edge over the enemy and other hostile machines.

Riding machines is faster but there are a few reasons why you might want to head out into the world on foot. Firstly, you cannot be stealthy while on the back of a machine. You have to unlock the skill to be able to loot items while on a mount. You can easily pick up items on the ground and loot on foot. Mounts can provide a quick getaway if you come across a machine and you are not interested in picking a fight with it.
