Genshin Impact has seen a lot of updates throughout the board. While some of them introduce fixes and vice versa. There have been a bunch of new characters added to the game on a regular basis.
While this is good and all, theory crafting the best build for characters like Yanfei, that itch you to go DPS isn’t as simple as it might look, especially when there’s no telling what her kit does.
In this guide, we will be uncovering the secrets about her kit along with the best builds that can transform Yanfei into the DPS carry your team needs.
So with that said, let’s jump in and get started!
Who Is Yanfei In Genshin Impact?
Yanfei, or Yānfēi (烟绯) is a pyro-type playable character in Genshin Impact. While the specifics to her birth aren’t revealed in full detail, she’s known to be the offspring between an Adeptus Father and a Human mother.
Unfortunately, Yanfei isn’t very familiar with her parents since they left her in the care of Madame Ping and left her on an adventure from an early age.
While she does have her resentments, Yanfei isn’t petty enough to hold grudges. She has worked hard since then and currently serves as a legal advisor for the people of Liyue.
Naturally, the pink-haired girl resides there as well!
Builds For Yanfei In Genshin Impact
Since Yanfei is naturally supposed to go for a pyro build, you’d have to go for fire-based items and ornaments. Plus, her main source of strength is from building up Seals, much like Ningguang.
Having said that, here’s what you need to build on Yanfei:
Best Weapons On Yanfei
While Yanfei does well with most pyro-based weapons, you’d need to go for the cream of the crop in order to really make her stand out.
This can, fortunately, be done with the aid of the following weapons:
Lost Prayer To The Sacred Winds
This is a 5-star Catalyst-type weapon that’s obtainable from event wishes and vice versa. The Lost Prayer To The Sacred Winds essentially boosts your movement speed during the battle by 10%.
Consequently, it also lets you gain an additional Elemental DMG bonus once every four seconds. This ability stacks, so the damage can ramp up to some insane numbers.
Unfortunately, the stacks are capped at four, so it’s considered a berserker-type ability. Having said that, here’s what this weapon is capable of in terms of raw stats:
Base ATK (LVL 1 – 90) | 2nd Stat Type | 2nd Stat (LVL 1-90) |
46 – 608 | CRIT Rate |
7.2% – 33.1% |
The elemental and movement bonuses will deactivate as soon as you’re out of combat. With that said, here’s how you can obtain Lost Prayer To The Sacred Winds:
- Epitome Invocation ( 2020-10-20 ): This wish was previously available from October 20, 2020 – November 10, 2020
- Epitome Invocation ( 2021-04-06 ): This wish was previously available from April 6, 2021 – April 27 – 2021.
- Epitome Invocation ( 2021-06-09 ): This wish was previously available from June 9, 2021 – June 29, 2021.
- Epitome Invocation ( 2022-07-13 ): This wish was previously available from July 13, 2022 – August 2, 2022.

The Windsith (Optional)
The Windisith is yet another Catalyst-type weapon that ranks a bit lower in rarity than Yanfei’s main weapon. It essentially grants you a random theme song for the first 10 seconds within a battle.
During this time, your ATK is increased by 60% – 120%, and your all Elemental DMG is boosted by 48% – 96% due to the Aria effect. Consequently, your Elemental Mastery is artificially increased by 240-480 for the duration.
You can reactivate The Windsith’s ability every 30 seconds, and since the battlefield effect is autonomous, you’ll be able to trigger it almost instantly.
With that said, here’s what this weapon packs in terms of stats:

Best Artifacts On Yanfei
The Artifacts system in Genshin Impact is mainly introduced to specify playstyles for characters. Most of the in-game artifacts will work fine for the basic level.
However, you’d need to equip the following if you’re in it for the very best.
Crimson Witch of Flames
This artifact set is available in both 4-star and 5-star rarities. The set includes a total of five artifacts that provide set bonuses at the 2-piece and the 4-piece mark.
This set consists of:
- Flower of Life: Witch’s Flower of Blaze
- Plume of Death: Witch’s Ever-Burning Plume
- Sands of Eon: Witch’s End Time
- Goblet of Eonothem: Witch’s Heart Flames
- Circlet of Logos: Witch’s Scorching Hat
Once you’ve collected most of these set items, the following bonuses will activate:
2 – Piece Bonus
This bonus increases the Pyro-based damage by 15%, and since Yanfei’s attacks deal Pyro damage, it resonates pretty well with her.
4 – Piece Bonus
This bonus increases the Overloaded and Burning states on the target. Consequently, the Burgeon DMG will boost by 40% while the Vaporize and Melt damage will increase by 15%.
Once you’ve used your Elemental skill, the 2-piece Set Bonus will increase by 50% of the initial value for the next 10 seconds. This can only stack thrice at most.
How To Obtain
Both 2–rarities of Crimson Witch are obtainable from the Hidden Palace of Zhou. You can find this domain on the top of Wuwang Hill in Liyue.
Since the domain is supposed to be continuously challenged, the rarity of the Crimson Witch you get will be dependent on luck and RNG.
You’d need to light all 4 ruin torches in order to unlock the area from within.
Wanderer’s Troupe (Optional)
This is another Pyro-type artifact that comprises two set bonuses. You can find it in the 4-star and 5-star rarities. There are a total of 5 items available in the Wanderer’s Troupe set.
It consists of the following:
- Flower of Life: Troupe’s Dawnlight
- Plume of Death: Bard’s Arrow Feather
- Sands of Eon: Concert’s Final Hour
- Goblet of Eonothem: Wanderer’s String-Kettle
- Circlet of Logos: Conductor’s Top Hat
Once you’ve collected a certain amount of these items, the following set bonuses will activate:
2-Piece Bonus
Your Elemental Mastery will increase by 80, which works pretty well with Yanfei’s kit since her Pyro damage is no joke.
4-Piece Bonus
If Yanfei uses a Catalyst or Bow type weapon, her Charged Attack damage will be increased by 35%.
How To Obtain
You can obtain the Wanderer’s Troup by defeating Weekly Bosses at World Level 3+. Once you head to World Level 5+, Normal Bosses will also start dropping it.
Consequently, you could also get it from Domain Reliquary: Tier I. Although, only the 5* variant can be gained from Artifact Strongbox.
What’s The Best DPS Team For Yanfei?
You can potentially go anything as long as it has a healthy mix of enchanters and damage dealer. However, the following team has been able to incorporate Yanfei as the main DPS pretty nicely:
Xingqiu
As a Hyrdo character, Xingqiu acts as the secondary main damage of the team. His combination of actives and passive provides the proper offensive and defensive damage bonus to the team.
Just make sure he’s leveled up sufficiently before you try to pair him up with Yanfei.
Bennett
Bennett is a pyro-based support character that can enhance your main damage while acting as the main cornerstone of the team.
He’s not supposed to be the main damage since his abilities gear towards boosting damage instead of dealing it directly.
Zhongli
Zhongli is a burst-type character who wields a polearm in his hands to optimize his damage potential. He’s a mix of control and DPS.
However, he’s more suited to being the all-rounder in this team comp.
Yanfei: DPS Ability Rundown
There’s no point in looking for damage through external factors if you cannot make full use of your innate kit. Therefore, we recommend you familiarize yourself with Yanfei’s basic kit before trying anything else.
Having said that, here’s how her abilities work:
Basic Attack: Seal of Approval
This is Yanfei’s normal attack that launches fireballs dealing three points of Pyro DMG. You will gain a scarlet seal upon successful hits.
At a single time, Yanfei can have a total of three Scarlet Seals at max. These stacks reduce Yanfei’s damage consumption, thereby making her last longer in battle than regular characters.
However, this effect lasts only as long as Yanfei is in battle. Therefore, you’d need to maintain these stacks in order to gain value out of them.
With that said, here’s how her attribute scaling works:

Charged Attack
This attack chunks out some of your Stamina plus all current Scarlet Shield to create an AOE attack that deals Pyro DMG after a short cast. The damage for this attack scales according to the number of Scarlet Seals.
Therefore, it’s not really advisable to perform it while sitting empty.

Brilliance
This passive ability grants Yanfei Scarlet Seals periodically while increasing the total DMG of her Charged attacks – essentially transforming her into a brawling machine.
This effect will stop as soon as Yanfei is out of battle or is dead.
Yanfei – Passive Talents
Just like most characters, Yanfei also possesses a total of 3 passive talents that increase her damage ratios while formulating a complete playstyle for her.
They’re meant to boost her Pyro damage while increasing her playability. With that said, here’s what these passive talents are supposed to do:
Proviso – Ascension 1 Talent
This talent allows Yanfei to consume her stack of Scarlet Seals on charged attacks to deal 5% more Pyro DMG with each stack.
The duration of this effect lasts for a total of 6s and can be recast as many times as needed. Each recast will also reset the previous timer.
Blazing Eye – Ascension 4 Talent
Whenever your Charged attacks inflict a critical hit upon enemies, you apply an additional bath of AOE Pyro Damage to them.
This damage ratio is equal to 80% of your ATK and is counted within Charged Attack’s DMG numbers.
Encyclopedic Expertise – Automatic Unlock
Yanfei is able to see the location of nearby resources on the Mini-map. The catch is that these resources must be unique to Liyue.
This ability helps collect materials for her Ascension and lets you gain a significant advantage in gathering-based missions.
Yanfei – Constellations
Yanfei has a total of six unique constellations that work similarly to her passives. While their effect is minimal in comparison, they can admittedly be pretty handy when it comes to buffing Yanfei.
With that said, here’s what her Constellations do in battle:
Level 1 Constellation – The Law Knows No Kindness
This constellation allows Yanfei to have reduced stamina costs on her Charged Attack whenever she uses it.
Each stack of this constellation reduces the costs by 10% and increases interruption resistance for her charged attacks.
Level 2 Constellation – Right of Final Interpretation
Yanfei’s Charges Attack has a 20% increased CRIT rate against enemies that fall below 50% HP.
Level 3 Constellation – Samadhi Fire-Forged
Your Signed Editct jumps three levels. The maximum upgrade level cap for this constellation is Lvl. 15.
Level 4 Constellation – Supreme Amnesty
This constellation conjures a shield that absorbs 45% of Yanfei’s Max HP for the next 15 seconds whenever Done Deal is used.
This boosts Yanfei’s ability to absorb Pyro DMG by 250%.
Level 5 Constellation – Abiding Affidavit
Done Deal’s level is increased by 3 whenever you use this ability. However, the maximum upgrade level cap is still 15.
Level 6 Constellation – Extra Clause
The maximum number of your Scarlet Seals is increased by 1.

Yanfei: Blaze of Legal Brilliance: Lore & Ability Showcase
Here is the official showcase of what Yanfei is capable of:
Conclusion
All in all, Yanfei is a pretty sturdy yet explosive DPS character that can be the cornerstone of your raid party. Her mastery of the Pyro element is pretty much perfect.
She’s not really supposed to tank damage, so focus on your dodges while unleashing as much as possible. Yanfei doesn’t lack stamina due to consumption reduction, so she can be a handful.
