You can also use runes to improve your health as well as other stats in the game. There are plenty of health buffs that you can get by investing points in the skill tree and points are pretty easy to get as well. When you level up your are going to get a point that you can invest in your skill tree in order to make Eivor more powerful than before.

With increased max health, you can pick fights with bosses and powerful enemies and be able to take more damage. You should also upgrade your rations pouch in order to be able to heal more frequently and not have to pick up healing items as often.
