Borderlands 3 is out now and the game has plenty of easter eggs and one of them is a mission based on the mines of Moria scene in Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. You enter into the mines via a gate. You do not have to say the code, you can pull a lever and enter into the mine.
Inside you have a chest that you can open which is placed right where the grave was in the movie. You also have a small well on the side just like in the movie. In the Lord of the Rings, we see Pippin drop a skull down the well and the fellowship is then attacked by enemies. The same is the case in this Borderlands 3 Lord of the Rings easter egg mission. You need to push the skull down the well and then you are ambushed by enemies.
You can kill the enemies to get to the boss fight which is kind of like the Balrog that Gandalf fights in the Lord of the Rings movie. Once you finish the boss off you are rewarded with a weapon that shoots glowing whip-like projectiles just like the whip the Balrog used to “kill” Gandalf.
This is all very interesting indeed and if you have seen the movie then you are going to like playing this mission. There are plenty of other easter eggs that you can discover while playing Borderlands 3 and if you are interested in checking out this Lord of the Rings mission then you can check out the video below for more information.
Borderlands 3 creative director Paul Sage recently talked about the future of the franchise and he mentioned that he would like to see an anime adaptation of the game and that he would also be very interested in a Borderlands 3 theme park.
