Mass Effect 2 Choices And Consequences Guide

Mass Effect 2 Choices

Most of the decisions you make have consequences. This is true in the case of real-life as well as in Mass Effect 2. Dialogue options can go a long way. The way you talk to an NPC in Mass Effect can change their perspective of you. There are a lot of key choices in the game which you go through. Making a verdict on these issues is one of your roles as the Captain. However, everything has a consequence, some harsher than others. This guide will include all the choices you will have to make and their consequences. By the end of the Mass Effect 2 choices guide, you will know what you have to do and what not to do to obtain a perfect walkthrough.

Choices And Consequences In Mass Effect 2

There are a lot of choices in Mass Effects. Most of these around the Suicide Mission. Many choices can lead to the death of a certain character. Let us start with the upgrades of Normandy.

Normandy Upgrades

Failing to upgrade your Normandy can lead to the death of any character in the Suicide Mission. The first upgrade is the Silaris Armor Tech. Upgrading this is important for Jack to live. To unlock the upgrade, you need to talk to Jack and spend 15,000 palladium. Jack will survive if the upgrade goes through.

The next upgrade is the Thanix Cannon. Failing to upgrade will cost the death of a squadmate who will die on his or her way to the collector base. The upgrade costs 15,000 palladium, and you need to talk to Garrus to unlock it. Completing the upgrade will prevent the death of all squadmates.

The last upgrade is the Cyclonic Shield Tech. If you fail to upgrade it, then a squadmate will die on their way to the collector base. You also need to put them in your squad for the cargo bay fight. The upgrade costs 15,000 palladium, and you need to talk to Tali to unlock it.

Samara: The Ardat-Yakshi Choices

In Samara’s loyalty mission, certain factors will lead to the death of Samara or Morinth. The first is where you fail to complete the four activities resulting in Morinth leaving. Samara will be portrayed as disloyal and will later die in the Suicide Mission. However, if you complete the activities, Morinth will take an interest in you and invite you for a chat. This will prove Samara’s loyalty, and Morinth will take you to her apartment.

Morinth will seduce you in the apartment, but Samara will come to help you and kill Morinth. Here you will have two choices. If you go for killing Morinth, then Samara will kill her daughter, and her loyalty will increase, preventing her from dying in the Suicide Mission. If you side with Morinth, then she will kill her mother, and you will gain her loyalty. She will stay on the Normandy disguised as her mother and will survive the Suicide Mission.

Miranda’s Loyalty Mission

Miranda: The Prodigal is a loyalty mission that Miranda has.

Miranda Lives

You can warn her about Kai Leng in Mass Effect 3 if you complete the mission. But only doing this will no get her out of harm’s way. You also have to make sure that you do not select the “I just want Oriana” as she can die from this outcome.

Miranda Dies

If you ignore the Prodigal, Miranda will not survive the events of Priority.

Jack or Miranda

You can accept Jack’s loyalty missions in Mass Effect 2 after arriving at Normandy after the Prodigal. There will be an argument going on between Jack and Miranda. You can either calm both of them, keeping their loyalty intact. This will require Charm. The other option is to side with one of them. Whoever you do not choose will be upset with you. However, their loyalty can be brought back by talking with them or romancing them.

Zaeed and Vido

Zaeed: The Price of Revenge is Zaeed’s loyalty mission. In this, you will have to help the factory workers escape. You can also ignore all this and go after Vido. If you ignore Vido and go to help the factory workers, then Vido will escape. After this, you will get three options. The first is “You brought this on yourself,” and this will cause Zaeed to live.

If after Suicide Mission, Zaeed is still alive, you can also choose the “I’m leaving you here” option. He will die here and will not appear in the Citadel in Mass Effect 3. You will also get one war asset at the end instead of two. The thing you can do is to choose any option other than the two mentioned above. The result of this will allow Zaeed to live but will be disloyal. He will also die in the citadel in Mass Effect 3. You will also get one war asset at the end instead of two.

Recruiting Krogan

After the “Dossier: The Warlord” mission, you will come back to Normandy. Here you will have a tank which you can open. If you open it, Krogan will join the squad and appear in Mass Effect 3. If you do not open the tank, Krogan will not join your squad and die in Mass Effect 3.

Thane’s Loyalty Mission

In the mission “Thane: Sins of the Father,” you have to tell Thane periodically about the position of Talid. There are two outcomes here. If you keep track of Talid, Thane can locate him all the way to the apartment where he can stop Kolyat from assassinating Talid. This will increase Thane’s loyalty towards you. The other outcome is where you lose track of Talid, causing Kolyat to kill Talid. Thane will be disloyal to you and might die ahead.

Tali: Treason Loyalty choices

Tali’s loyalty does not depend on her loyalty mission. Instead, you have to choose at the end of her trial. If you select the “We have no evidence” option, then Tali will be exiled. However, you will gain her loyalty because evidence of her father’s actions was not shown. You will also not be able to choose a resolution to the Quarian/Geth storyline in Mass Effect 3.

If you Charm / Intimidate / Rally the Crowd, then Shepherd can easily convince the Admiralty Board to clear all the charges of Tali. You will also earn Tali’s loyalty this way. You will also be able to choose a resolution to the Quarian/Geth storyline in Mass Effect 3. If you go for “Yes. Here is the evidence,” then Tali will be exempted but will lose your Tali’s loyalty. You will also not be able to choose a resolution to the Quarian/Geth storyline in Mass Effect 3.

Tali vs. Legion

After completing Treasure and Legion: A house-divided mission, Tali, and the Legion will start a big argument. If you Charm / Intimidate, they will both stay loyal to you, and you can still romance Tali. If you select “Back off, Tali,” then she will become disloyal towards you. Your romantic relationship with her will also end.  If you select “Legion, stop transmitting,” then Legion will be disloyal to you.

The fate of the Crew

After the Reaper IFF mission, the Normandy will have a surprise visit by the Collectors. Here there are three outcomes. The first is when you enter Omega-4 without any delay. This will ensure the safety of all of the crew. Half of the crew will die if you enter Omega-4 Relay with a delay of completing 1-3 assignments. Entering the Omega-4 Relay with a delay in completing 4 or more missions, the whole crew will die.

The Collector Base

If you destroy the collector base, then the mass relays will be destroyed. This will cause everyone on Earth to wipe out. If you try to save the collector base, then the mass relays will be destroyed. This will cause everyone on Earth to Live.

Choices in the Suicide Mission

There are several choices that you have to make in the Suicide mission.

Veetor’s Fate

If you let Veetor go with Tali, then you meet him again at Tali’s trial, where he is friendly to Shephard. If you make Veetor go with Cerberus, then you can meet him in the Migrant fleet, but he will be afraid of you.

Conrad Verner

If you used Charm or Intimidate on Conrad in Mass Effect 1, he will appear in the eternity bar in Illium in Mass Effect 2. Here there are two choices you can make. The first choice is to help Conrod, making him live through the game and reappear in Mass Effect 3. If you go for the “Get Lost” or “You Screwed Up,” then Conrod will leave being in an angry mood. He will not appear again in Mass Effect 3.

Shadow Broker DLC

If you complete the DLC, then this will increase the chances of Liara being the new shadow broker. Many of your squadmates will also know about this. If you ignore the DLC, Liara will still become the new shadow broker, but Shephard will not be aware of this.

Final Overlord DLC

In the mission, you have two options relating to the fate of David. If you choose the “David is coming with me” option, you will take David to Grissom academy. David will then make his appearance in the “Grissom academy: Emergency Evacuations” mission in Mass Effect 3. If you select the “The project needs him” option, David will not appear in Mass Effect 3. You will later get to know about his death from Gavin Archer.

Dinner with Kelly

At the beginning of Mass Effect 2, you have two options with Kelly. You can have dinner with her, or you can ignore the option. If you have dinner with Kelly, then she will take care of your fish. You will also get Prejek Paddlefish in Mass Effect 3. Kelly will return you the fish back as well. However, if you do not have dinner with Kelly, she will not appear in the third game. There will also be no Prejek Paddlefish in the game.

Khalisa Al-Jilani

Khalisa will appear in Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3. In Mass Effect 2, you can punch her. If you go for the option, then she will reappear in Mass Effect 3 and will dodge your punch being used to it. If you don’t punch her in the first two games, she will change her reporting tactics.

The Virmire Survivor

You can romance the Virmire Survivor in Mass Effect 1 as well as the second part. If you do not stay loyal to him in the second game, he will call you out in Mass Effect 3. He will also not side with you at the end of Priority: Citadel II. If you stay loyal to him in Mass Effect 2, he will side with you at the end of Priority: Citadel II.

These are all the Mass Effect 2 choices that you will face and their consequences. If you are interested in learning more about the game then you can check out our guide on how you can romance Samara.

I love supporting my team in the workspace and in Summoner's Rift. Unleashing Haymaker Grit as Sett, jumping from wall to wall as Lucio or giving shot calls as a tank in Ahn'Qiraj, supporting is what I do. I love the Soulsborne series and enjoy a good multiplayer.
