There are a couple of ways in which you can farm eridium in Borderlands 3. Breaking those Purple crystals that you find in the game is one of those ways. But you cannot do that right away. In this Borderlands 3 guide, we are going to go over how you can break these Purple crystals.

How To Break Purple Crystals In Borderlands 3

In order to be able to break these Purple crystals in Borderlands 3, you need to progress through the game. You need to complete the mission “Beneath the Meredian”. Once you have completed this mission you will be able to break the Purple crystals that you find in order to earn some extra Eridium.

Note that you cannot break these crystals with guns. You need to use your melee attack in order to break them. Breaking the crystals will drop Eridium which you can pick up.

Completing global challenges related to guardian ranks will also reward you with Eridium. You can find these in the Galaxy View. There are plenty of challenges in this category and you will have to complete tasks like killing enemies in a specific way or using special weapons. You also get Eridium every time you reach a higher rank in a challenge.

Eridium can be found in the open world as part of missions or as loot. You can get it by defeating bosses and looting bodies.

Eridium can be spent on items offered by Crazy Earl on Sanctuary. You can buy cosmetics from the guy or visit his vending machines that have loot. The items on sale will change from time to time. You can also spend this currency on slot machines that you will find in Sanctuary’s canteen. Spend the Eridium to get a change of winning valuable rewards.
