This Guilty Gear Strive guide will include all the details on how to play May.

How To Play May In Guilty Gear Strive

May is quite a unique character, but you will only be playing her if your playstyle is poking. Her poke is amazing, and she can keep the enemy on one corner for quite some time. A great poke option is down + slash by inputting the S command on your keyboard.

This allows May to poke the lower part of the enemy’s body using her anchor. The range for this anchor attack is a lot. You can also perform down + heavy slash(HS) as this does more damage and can knock down the enemy. However, dodging this might give an enemy chance for a counterattack. For enemies who prefer staying in the air more or wasting time by crouching a lot, you can use the overhead attack. You can perform this by doing the forward + charged HS button. This works as an anti-air and can help you in frustrating scenarios.

Main Abilities

Arisugawa Sparkle: You can perform this by pressing down back + punch (P) or kick (K). This attack allows you to spawn a seal that throws a beachball at your enemy. Then, depending on how far the enemy is, you can adjust your attack by pressing the punch or kick. The Kick has more range, while the Punch version is better for close range and has a big hitbox. However, the attack isn’t that safe at a close distance because if the enemy manages to get close to you, they can attack you.

Mr. Dolphin: You can perform this by holding back and then forward + S or HS or hold down and then up + S or HS. This attack allows you to ride your dolphin both horizontally or vertically. You might have seen people spam this a lot in matches. However, using it properly is more deadly and advantageous for you. The vertical attack is for anti-air, while the horizontal is used as a poke after combos. The vertical attack does not knock back the enemy that much, so you need to be prepared. The S button offers a quicker but weaker version, while the HS is a slower and more damaging option.

Overdrives

Great Yamada Attack: You can perform this by pressing down right, down right + S. This attack spawns a pink whale to leap towards the enemy and do heavy damage. The start-up is quite slow, and enemies can easily block it depending on how far the whale leaps from. However, this does not mean the attack is useless. There are a lot of situations where you can use it and get a hit.

One option would be to use it on a whiff attack. If the enemy uses a heavy attack and misses, you can perform this while the enemy recovers. You can use the attack if the enemy is pressuring you a lot and attacking you endlessly. The start-up is reduced while in the corner because of the distance it has to travel, so keep that in mind.

The Wonderful and Dynamic Goshogawara: You can perform this by pressing back half-circle, forward + HS. This is a fast start-up invincible attack. You can use it as an anti-air or when an enemy whiffs an attack. This does decent damage and can also help you get out of a corner.
