When you think about the most popular Pokemon in the world, Pikachu comes to mind. With Pikachu being the main character of the recently released Detective Pikachu movie, it is surprising that people like other Pokemon much more than the little Yellow mouse.
52,000 people took part in a survey in an attempt to find out which Pokemon is the most popular in the world. Surprisingly Pikachu came in at number 44. It is worth mentioning that some Pokemon go no votes at all. Even so, Charizard holds the number one spot with 1,107 votes.
Dragons are trending these days so that might have something to do with the numbers but it is worth mentioning that Charizard is one of the first Pokemon and hence is a fan favorite. Gengar got second place with 1,056 votes. Followed by Arcanine and Bulbasaur.
Surprisingly some of my favorite Pokemon, Blastoise, Lugia and Zapdos did not make it in the top 10. You can check out the list of top 20 most popular Pokemon in the world according to the survey below:

Charizard is the only OG starter Pokemon that is fully evolved that made it in the top ten. That is very interesting indeed. Charmander did not make it to the top 20 either and came in at 32nd. Mewtwo is considered to be one of the most powerful Pokemon and even has an entire movie around it. Still, the Pokemon did not come in the top 20 and was placed at 43rd with only 298 votes.
I was not expecting these Pokemon to come on top and it goes to show that the Pokemon that we love might not be popular around the world. I am sure that these numbers are surprising to other people as well.
Pokemon have come back to life ever since Pokemon Go was released. Since then Nintendo has released Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Evee. More titles like Pokemon Sword and Shield are going to release in the upcoming months.
